Hope and Healing in Huaycán, Peru

Trip Highlights

This past month, World Servants was blessed to return to the community of Huaycán, Peru—one of the poorest neighborhoods in Lima and home to many families seeking a better future. In partnership with Geneva College nursing students and First Presbyterian Church in Beaver, Pennsylvania, this mission trip became a vibrant expression of Christ’s compassion through physical care, heartfelt connection, and gospel-centered service.
Though rooted in ancient, pre-Incan history, Huaycán today is a growing urban area where the need for hope, opportunity, and support is great. World Servants, in long-standing partnership with a local ministry and Casa Naturista Peruana Italiana, has walked alongside this community for years. In March, a team of nineteen volunteers, including Geneva nursing students and a professor, continued that legacy of love and service in the local community.

Compassion in Action: Medical Ministry

Geneva College’s nursing students played a vital role in offering basic health services and education. With the guidance of one of their professors, the team brought both clinical skills and Christ-like compassion to every aspect of their ministry. During the week the team:
  • Hosted eye clinics to assess and support visual health
  • Conducted blood pressure screenings to help identify potential health concerns
  • Lead a well-received first aid training course for community members and Casa Naturista staff
These services provided both immediate care and long-term benefits for the community. The students’ professionalism and kindness left a meaningful impact—meeting physical needs while sharing the love and hope found in Christ

Serving with Compassion: Living Out Colossians 3:12

To focus on the mission, the team started and ended each day with the same verse: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” – Colossians 3:12
Whether through a blood pressure check, a Bible story, a hammer in hand, or a painted brushstroke—our team sought to wear those virtues as they served and the people of Huaycán responded with gratitude for the team actions.
Partnership that Multiplies ImpactThe success of this trip was made possible through meaningful partnerships with First Presbyterian Church of Beaver, Geneva College nursing program, and local leaders in Peru. When churches, students, and communities come together in the name of Christ incredible things happen.
To our supporters, participants, and prayer warriors—thank you. Because of your generosity and heart for missions, the love of Jesus reached homes, hearts, and lives in Huaycán, Peru.
As we continue to serve in 2025, we invite you to stay connected, pray with us, and consider how God might use you in this movement. Together, let’s keep building hope and transforming lives—one mission at a time. Thank you for being part of the World Servants story!

Compassion in Action: Construction and Creativity

Another group on the team focused on improving the physical infrastructure of Casa Naturista, working diligently to meet tangible needs in the community. Their efforts helped create safer and more functional spaces for the ministry to continue serving well beyond the team's stay. During the week the team:
  • Completed the roof on the third floor, providing much-needed shelter and expanding usable space
  • Repaired an older kitchen roof, ensuring a safer and more reliable cooking area
  •  Conducted smaller construction projects that supported the overall improvement of the facility
In addition to the hands-on construction work, a few artistic team members used their gifts to bless the space in a different way. By the end of the week, they had painted a vibrant, colorful mural—a lasting, joyful expression of creativity and faith that will continue to inspire all who pass through the doors of Casa Naturista.

Compassion in Action: Sharing God's Word

While some team members focused on building spaces, others focused on building hearts. A vibrant Vacation Bible School brought joy, energy, and gospel truth to dozens of children over the course of three days. Through interactive activities, the kids encountered God’s love in ways that were tangible and memorable. Highlights of this ministry included:
  • Creative crafts and fun games, helping children engage their imaginations while building community
  • Bible storytelling and gospel-centered lessons, making eternal truths accessible and meaningful to young hearts
  • Loving interactions, where team members offered encouragement, hugs, and prayers to every child they met
At the same time, another group came alongside the women of Huaycán, offering support through Scripture and creativity. They walked together through a Bible storybook that the women could color, personalize, and keep—a beautiful way to reflect on God’s Word long after the team’s visit.
